Read full description of the books:
I like to say I love love poetry. I also admire the poetry of C. K. Williams, so when I return to a favorite of mine, a collection of love poetry by him, I'm a big winner. One thing I like so much is his use of the long line. Like Whitman in that way, a poet I know he esteems. But a Williams long line seems an advance somehow in that he uses the versatility it gives him to burrow deeper into the story or thought being pursued. The lines give him the control to bring full, elegant expression to it. When Williams writes of love here it's more than simple (or complicated, messy) love between man and woman. That's present, of course, and is a part of almost every poem, radiantly in a sequence about someone named Catherine, for instance, and wisely in a sequence concerning jealousy. But for Williams love includes a feeling of completeness with everything. Love becomes an awareness of and acknowledgment of existence itself and our place in it. The harmony inherent in all reality and continuation go hand in hand with the emotion and sex he writes about. Some books leave a warmth behind after you've finished and put them back on the shelf, the same way the sun leaves a warmth in the air and in a brick wall after it's set. Love About Love is that kind of book, charming and wise and erotic all at once.
